Wally Dallenbach Jr.
Wally Dallenbach Jr. (born 1963) entered the Winston Cup Series in 1991.
He started out as a part-time driver on Junie Donlavey’s team, and the following year he shared the No. 16 car for Jack Roush with Mark Martin.
In 1994, Dallenbach was given the honor of being only the second driver besides King Richard Petty to drive the famous No. 43. However, the two parted ways during the season, and in the following seasons Wally Dallenbach Jr. had no full-time ride. During a “one race deal” with Bill Davis, driving the No. 22 Pontiac, he came close to pulling off the unexpected. At Watkins Glen, he nearly won the race.
This near-win at Watkins Glen was also typical of Wally Dallenbach Jr.’s up-and-down career, as he seemed to feel more at home on road courses than on ovals. For this reason, he was repeatedly signed as a substitute driver at Pocono and Watkins Glen.
Finally, he retired from active racing in 2001 and went on to work as a commentator for TNT’s NASCAR broadcasts.
