Derrike Cope
Derrike Cope was born on November 3, 1958, in San Diego, California. Cope won his first Cup race in 1990 with the legendary Daytona 500, where he beat Dale Earnhardt, who lost the lead due to a tire failure. His race car was the Purolator Chevrolet Lumina from Bob Whitcomb Racing. Later in the 1990 season, he came close to winning again at Dover, but had to give up the lead on the final lap because he ran out of fuel.
