The 1992 NASCAR Winston Cup Series season began on February 9 and ended on November 15. Independent owner/driver Alan Kulwicki of AK Racing won the championship in the second-closest finish in NASCAR history.
The 1992 season is regarded as one of the most dramatic and emotional years in NASCAR history. Seven-time champion and “King of stock car racing” Richard Petty ended his racing career at the end of the season, and future champion Jeff Gordon made his debut in the 1992 season finale in the famous #24 rainbow DuPont Chevy.
Richard L. “Ricky” Rudd (born September 12, 1956), nicknamed “The Rooster,” is NASCAR’s “Iron Man.” He holds the NASCAR record for consecutive starts with 788.
With his new sponsor Tide, Rudd drove the Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet Lumina, together with his crew chief Gary DeHart, to seventh place in the season standings. After the following season, Ricky Rudd left Hendrick Motorsports and founded his own team, Rudd Performance Motorsports.
