The 1990 movie “Days Of Thunder” tells the story of the career of young NASCAR driver Cole Trickle (Tom Cruise). His initial rivalry with his teammate Rowdy Burns gradually gives way to a special friendship. After a crash and an injury-related absence, Trickle is replaced by Russ Wheeler, with whom he develops a bitter rivalry.
Trickle’s crew chief, Harry Hogge, coined the now world-famous line after the rookie complained that Wheeler had rammed him on purpose: “No, no, he didn’t slam you, he didn’t bump you, he didn’t nudge you… he ‘rubbed’ you. And rubbin, son, is racin’!”
