The Ford Taurus
The third-generation Taurus replaced the Thunderbird in NASCAR after the 1997 season. The Taurus was the first sedan approved for racing on the track. The first Taurus driver to win the Winston Cup (now Sprint Cup) championship was Dale Jarrett in his #88 Ford Quality Care / Ford Credit car, owned by Robert Yates.
The Busch Series of that era (now the Nationwide Series) was won by Greg “The Biff” Biffle in his #60 Grainger Industrial Supply Taurus, owned by Jack Roush. In total, the Ford Taurus earned three Winston Cup championships and two Busch Series championships.
Lake Speed
Lake Chambers Speed (born January 17, 1948) is a former driver in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series. In 402 starts between 1980 and 1998, he scored one Winston Cup win.
The Model Kit
This 1998 Revell Monogram Ford Taurus model kit (length: 8.4 in / 21.3 cm) has 92 parts. The parts are white and clear, and the tires are made of black vinyl.
The hood can be displayed open, revealing the detailed V8 engine.
The decal sheet shows scenes from Huckleberry Hound, a Cartoon Network production.
Build a beautiful display model from this kit, or a great slot car following the Sakatsu / Thunder rules. Cartoon Network versions, by the way, are often built to the delight of (not only) the builder’s own kids…
