The 1998 Chevy Monte Carlo and Terry Labonte

After Chevrolet replaced the Monte Carlo with the more aerodynamic and fresher-looking Lumina in 1988, the Monte Carlo was set to return seven years later.
While the four-door version continued to be sold as the Lumina, the coupe got the Monte Carlo name back. American customers were simply too attached to “their” Monte.

What was new, and unfamiliar at first, was one characteristic of the Monte Carlo: it was front-wheel drive! Of course, that applied only to the street cars and not to the race cars on the oval tracks…

In 1994, Terry Labonte joined Hendrick Motorsports and drove the Kellogg’s Chevy Monte Carlo with the number 5. In his first two years at HMS, Labonte scored three wins each year, including the legendary “Goody’s Headache Powder 500” at Bristol.

Labonte was leading with ten laps to go when he suddenly spun on the track. Even so, he managed to keep the lead. In the last half lap before the finish, he was wrecked by his pursuer, Dale Earnhardt, and ended up finishing eighth. In his well-known laid-back manner, the “Intimidator” explained after the race that it had not been intentional but an accident…

The two-time champion was named one of “NASCAR’s 50 Greatest Drivers” in 1998 and will be inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2016.

The Model Kit

This ProFinish model kit from Revell, released in 1998, is a Chevy Monte Carlo.
The body comes factory-painted and already finished in the Kellogg’s design. Peel’n Stick decals are included for additional detailing.

The SnapTite and ProFinish models are very easy to assemble and are therefore also suitable for beginners. In addition, the bodies are very sturdy and work very well as durable slot racing bodies.

Notice

This model kit is not a children’s toy!
It contains small parts that can easily be swallowed. Never leave children under 10 years of age unattended with a model kit like this!

Please note that, due to their age, the included decals may be brittle. If you want to use them, you should definitely pre-treat the decals and cover them with a suitable film before soaking them in water!
I do not provide any warranty for the fit, condition, or functionality of the decals!
