Tim Richmond

Tim Richmond (June 7, 1955 – August 13, 1989) was an American race car driver from Ashland, Ohio.
Before moving to the NASCAR Winston Cup Series, he raced in the US Indy Car series. Richmond was one of the first drivers to make a complete switch from open-wheel racing to NASCAR stock cars. He won the Indianapolis Rookie of the Year Award in 1980 and scored a total of 13 wins over the course of eight NASCAR seasons.

1986 was Richmond’s best NASCAR season, in which he finished third in the standings. He won seven races that season – more than any other driver. In 1987, Tim Richmond was diagnosed with AIDS. Despite this, he entered eight Cup races that year and scored two wins and one pole position before running his last race in August ’87.
After being suspended by NASCAR following a positive test for a banned substance, Richmond retired as a driver. NASCAR later acknowledged that the test had been incorrect.

Richmond grew up in a wealthy family and lived an extravagant lifestyle, which earned him the nickname “Hollywood.” The then-president of Charlotte Motor Speedway described Richmond’s influence on stock car racing this way: “There was no race car driver comparable to Tim. He was a kind of James Dean character.”
Cole Trickle, the main character in the film Days of Thunder, played by Tom Cruise, is based on Richmond and his interaction with Harry Hyde and Rick Hendrick.

The model kit is highly detailed and includes, among other things, a complete NASCAR roll cage, a custom-fitted speedway exhaust system, several parts in an aluminum finish, and Goodyear Eagle racing tires.

The parts trees are molded in red, with chrome-plated and clear parts. The hood can be displayed open.
