The 1986 Ford Thunderbird

In 1983, Ford ended the previous era of the boxy “Box Birds” with the new T-Bird. The formerly baroque design was replaced by the sporty, streamlined coupe silhouette of the “Aero Bird.”

The new design had a positive effect not only on sales of the street cars, but also on Ford’s success record in NASCAR.

Ricky Rudd

Ricky “The Rooster” Rudd was known as the “Iron Man” of NASCAR. To this day he holds the record for the most consecutive starts. The 1977 “Rookie of the Year” started a whopping 788 races in a row without a break, winning 23 of them, before retiring from active racing in 2007.

The Model Kit

This model kit from Revell, dating from 1986, is a Ford Thunderbird.
The model kit is molded in white with clear and chrome-plated parts and includes a complete “Motorcraft” decal sheet.

The car is painted in just two colors, so assembly is fairly straightforward. This Thunderbird fits perfectly into the NASCAR Grayside rules and is ideally proportioned.
